Calibration

Title 22 of California’s code of regulations requires periodic calibration verification and electrical safety testing to ensure that equipment has been properly maintained and is operating within the manufacturer’s parameters. Depending on the type of medical practice, equipment must be tested every 3, 6, or 12 months.

Testing and calibration of biomedical equipment is becoming increasingly significant to ensure quality control. Accuracy in diagnosis and effectiveness in treatment cannot be compromised at all. Proper testing and calibration ensures accuracy, effectiveness, and long life for the equipment, which ultimately enables medical practitioners to achieve the highest degree of patient care.

Testing and calibration:

  • Determines if equipment is functioning properly
  • Helps identify any problems that may occur as a result of regular standard usage.
  • Should be conducted at least once a year.
  • Calibration and testing should be done for the entire range of medical equipment, including defibrillators, pulse oximeters, scales, infusion pumps, patient monitors, ventilators, fetal monitors, etc.
  • Is especially important to conduct electrical safety tests on any electrical device a patient may come into contact with.
  • Must be concluded by properly documenting the test results and calibration reports. These reports should be saved by the medical practitioners for periodic government audits and internal quality control inspections.

Testing and calibrating equipment:

  • Is versatile, available in various models, with numerous optional features
  • Includes specialized tools that function for a wide variety of medical equipment and applications, including such tools as electrical safety testers, patient simulators, electrosurgical analyzers, defibrillator analyzers, oxygen output testers, ultrasound testers, etc.
  • Enable a trained technician to perform testing comprehensively, accurately, effectively, in-depth, and with great efficiency.
  • Provide the option of storing and printing test results with special software to ensure proper documentation.

How is the testing done?
Any measuring equipment or device needs to be tested for its accuracy. Testing is done in accordance to domestic standards to verify the equipment is calibrated properly. This usually means that the device must perform in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications, in both safety and performance tests. If testing reveals that the device is not properly calibrated, then it may need to be repaired. All test results must be formally documented.

How much does it cost?
Calibration and testing service is usually conducted on-site by a trained technician. There is a service charge to send a technician to your facility, and this cost is based on travel time to the facility, availability of technicians, time of the appointment, and flexibility in scheduling. The usual service for the Los Angeles area is $120. Of course, this cost can be waived completely if you bring your equipment to our facilities but most people find it more convenient and practical to request on-site service.

Calibration verification and electrical safety testing services are priced on a per-item basis. The cost for each item is based on the amount of testing, time required to perform the tests, and the type of equipment required. The cost for calibration verification and testing ranges from $10 to $40 per item, with $17.50 being the average per-item price.

Audiometers are a special case since they must be calibrated by a specific department in our facility. Please feel free to contact us to request rates for audiometer calibration.

Upon receiving payment in full, we will provide all of the necessary documentation, certifying that your equipment is properly calibrated and electrical-safety tested.

How do I schedule?
